Promalactis pallidistriata Wang , sp. nov.
( Figs 10 View FIGURES 9–16 , 43 View FIGURES 40–45 , 72 View FIGURES 67–72 )
Type material. Malaysia: Holotype ♂, Enjau Rompin Johore, Tree tower 103’ Light , 23.X.1985, leg. H.S. Barlow, slide No. NHMUK010317146 About NHMUK .
Paratypes. 1♂ 1♀, same data as holotype, slide No. NHMUK010317147 ♀ .
Diagnosis. The new species can be distinguished by the forewing having a white band extending from the base of the fold to the distal 1/5 of the dorsum; in the male genitalia by the uncus deeply concave in V-shape at middle apically and the costa of the valva with a papillary process at distal 1/8.
Description. Adult ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 9–16 ). Forewing length 4.0– 4.5 mm.
Head. Vertex white; frons white, with brown scales laterally; occiput dark rust brown. Labial palpus with second segment dark brown on outer surface, basal 1/2 white and distal 1/2 black on inner surface; third segment black on outer surface except white basally, white on inner surface except black apically. Antennal scape white dorsally, dark brown ventrally; flagellum black, alternating with white dorsally except basal flagellomeres white.
Thorax. Mesonotum and tegula dark rust brown. Forewing ochreous brown, with brown scales; costal spot white, rounded, from distal 1/4 crossing 2/3 wing width, its outer and posterior margins densely edged with black scales; white band extending from base of fold to distal 1/5 of dorsum, edged with black scales on anterior margin, curved medially, widened distally; apical spot black, ovate; fringe ochreous yellow except black on distal part of costal margin and deep grey around tornus. Hindwing and fringe grey. Foreleg black, femur dark grey, tarsus white at apex of basal tarsomere ventrally; midleg black, tarsus with basal two tarsomeres white ventrally, tibia with a tuft of white scales at apex; hindleg yellow ventrally, black dorsally, tarsus with basal three tarsomeres entirely white.
Male genitalia ( Fig. 43 View FIGURES 40–45 ). Uncus parallel sided in basal 1/3, shrunk mediolaterally, concave in V-shape medioapically. Gnathos band-like, circular, basally uniform in width, medially narrowed. Tegumen furcate from before posterior margin; lateral arm broad, sub-rectangular, only slightly narrowed before anterior end. Valva elongate, basal 2/5 uniformly narrow, widened medially, narrowed from distal 1/4 to rounded apex, setose distally; costa convex medially, with a cluster of dense setae from distal 1/4 to 1/8, with a papillary process at distal 1/8; sacculus narrow, extending beyond basal 2/3 of valva. Saccus triangular, 2/3 length of uncus, broad at base, narrowed to apex. Juxta clavate, terminating before middle of uncus, slightly widened at base; basal lobe clubbed, slender. Phallus slender, slightly longer than valva, pointed at apex; cornutus absent.
Female genitalia ( Fig. 72 View FIGURES 67–72 ). Apophyses anteriores about 1/2 length of apophyses posteriores. Eighth tergum rectangular, with sparse setae on posterior margin. Lamella postvaginalis large, ovate, with two processes anterolaterally. Ductus bursae heavily sclerotized, tubular. Corpus bursae longer than ductus bursae, ovate, with a sclerotized, coiled belt posteriorly; signum large, narrow, more than 1/2 length of corpus bursae, curved medially, serrate on margins.
Distribution. Malaysia.
Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin pallidus and striatus, referring to the white band on the dorsum of the forewing.
