General characteristics: Body small (2.6–6.0 mm); head prognathous to slightly deflexed ( Figs 4A, B View Figure 4 , 6A, B View Figure 6 , 8A, B View Figure 8 ); frontoclypeal suture absent; eyes large, hemispherically prominent; apical maxillary and labial palpomeres bilaterally symmetric, securiform; mandibles usually toothed ( Figs 6A View Figure 6 , 8A, B View Figure 8 ), sometimes simple ( Fig. 4A, B View Figure 4 ); gular sutures close, nearly confluent (Supporting Information, Fig. S1A–C View Figure 1 ); antennae 11-segmented. Pronotum simple, not elaborately sculptured, without lateral glandular pores ( Figs 4C View Figure 4 , 6C View Figure 6 , 8D View Figure 8 ); mesopreepisternum contiguous; metaventrite with midline long, complete or near so, and branched. Elytra entirely covering abdomen ( Fig. 5 View Figure 5 ) or shortened in various degree, with abdomen and hindwings partially exposed ( Figs 3 View Figure 3 , 7 View Figure 7 ); disc usually deeply punctate, sometimes forming coarse reticulation ( Figs 4D View Figure 4 , 6D View Figure 6 ), or sometimes smooth ( Fig. 8D View Figure 8 ). Tibial spurs usually present, rarely absent. Abdomen with large lateral eversible glandular pores (Supporting Information, Fig. S1L View Figure 1 ); ventrite 7 of male with apical margin usually entire or concave ( Figs 4E View Figure 4 , 8F View Figure 8 ), sometimes deeply emarginate; ventrite 8 of male symmetrical, forming narrow, elongate process. Aedeagus symmetrical ( Figs 4E View Figure 4 , 8F View Figure 8 ). Ovipositor with paired well-developed palpiform gonostyli ( Fig. 6E View Figure 6 ).
