Ocydromia Meigen View in CoL View at ENA

Ocydromia Meigen, 1820: 351 View in CoL . Type species: Ocydromia ruficollis Meigen, 1820 View in CoL , by subsequent designation (Stephens in Richardson, 1836: 609).

Originally Included species: Empis glabricula Fallén, 1816 ; Ocydromia rufipes Meigen, 1820 View in CoL ; Ocydromia ruficollis Meigen, 1820 View in CoL ; Ocydromia flavipes Meigen, 1820 View in CoL (as “ Oc. flavipes View in CoL . Meg.”); Ocydromia scutellata Meigen, 1820 View in CoL .

Family: Hybotidae .

Current status: Valid genus [teste Yang et al. (2007: 333)].

Remarks: Previous catalogs (e.g., Chvála & Kovalev, 1986: 182; Yang et al., 2007: 333) have given the typification of this genus-group name as Empis glabricula Fallén, 1816 , by subsequent designation of Westwood (1840: 133). Acceptance of the type designation of Ocydromia ruficollis Meigen, 1820 by Stephens in Richardson (1836) would disrupt the stability of nomenclature and taxonomy of Ocydromia as it would place it as a senior synonym of Leptopeza Macquart, 1834 and would require a substitute genus-group name for the species currently placed in Ocydromia . The next available name for species currently treated in Ocydromia is Eucinesia Gistel, 1848 . Application to the ICZN to suppress the designation of Ocydromia ruficollis Meigen, 1820 by Stephens in Richardson (1836) to conserve the current generic concept of Ocydromia Meigen, 1820 is warranted.
