Description: This species is locally known as “sand type ” jellyfish (trade name) and “ulbu kiburu” (sandpaper jellyfish) in Indonesia. The wide exumbrella has 16 radial canals and eight rhopalia. The exumbrella has numerous small and sharply pointed warts. The species has eight oral arms with large scapulets and many tentacles ( Kramp 1961). The exumbrella diameter ranges from 450- 480 mm.
Distribution and habitat: This edible species inhabits the Klang Strait. It also occurs in Penang, Pulau Pangkor and Lumut, on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
