Ceroptresini Nieves-Aldrey, Nylander & Ronquist, 2015 . In Ronquist et al. (2015: 35).

Diagnosis. Ceroptresini is the only tribe, along with Synergini , that includes inquilines associated with oak galls. The only autapomorphy of Ceroptresini that clearly separates this tribe from Synergini is having the second metasomal tergum (T2) short and free, not overlapped with the third tergum (T3), in both sexes (for example, Figs. 2b, c, k View FIGURE 2 ; 11c, f View FIGURE 11 ; 12f View FIGURE 12 ; 13h View FIGURE 13 ; 14e View FIGURE 14 ; 15i View FIGURE 15 ; 16l View FIGURE 16 ; 17i View FIGURE 17 ), whereas in Synergini these two tergites are fused, forming a large sclerite, in both sexes.

Redescription. Female antenna 12–13-segmented and usually subclavate (rarely filiform), male antenna usually 15-segmented and filiform, rarely obscurely 15-segmented (the last flagellar segments not clearly separated). Front and vertex weakly sculptured, almost smooth or alutaceous to finely coriaceous, always without frontal carinae. Occiput without distinct and sharp occipital carina. Ventral area of genae without vertical carinae. Malar space usually much shorter than height of compound eye. Lower face with striae radiating from sides of clypeus. With or without two vertical carinae running from inner ventral margin of the toruli. With or without a densely pubescent depressed area between and below the toruli. Pleurostomal sulcus absent, epistomal sulcus usually slightly impressed. Ventral margin of clypeus usually straight and not projected over mandibles, rarely slightly projected. Pronotum without lateral carinae and large medially. Dorsal part of pronotal plate complete, with its lateral margins marked throughout and reaching anterior margin of mesoscutum, and with two distinct and more or less widely separated admedian depressions (foveae). Dorsolateral margin of dorsal part of pronotal plate not projecting laterally. Mesoscutum smooth to strongly coriaceous, sometimes with weak discontinuous transversal elements. Notauli complete or incomplete, but never absent (although they are sometimes very narrow and shallow). Scutellar foveae always present, but sometimes very shallowly impressed or inconspicuous. Mesopleuron usually completely smooth and shiny, rarely with some striae or with an alutaceous sculpture anteriorly; mesopleural impression absent. Propodeal carinae uniformly straight (or at most very slightly curved) in their whole length or straight in the anterior 1/3, divergent and curved in the posterior 2/3 and branched distally. First metasomal tergum reduced to a dorsal smooth crescent-shaped scale, or ring-shaped and longitudinally sulcate like in Synergini . Second metasomal tergum (T2) small and free in both sexes, usually with a dense hair patch anterolaterally, rarely with sparse pilosity. Third metasomal tergum (T3) usually without punctures or just with a small posterodorsal patch of micropunctures, rarely with a posterior narrow band; never dorsodistally incised. Radial cell of the forewings closed. Ventral swelling with rows of costulae of profemur absent. Tarsal claws bidentate, with a basal lobe. Small wasps, usually ranging from 1.0 to 2.5 mm, rarely 3.0 mm or more. Body color mainly black or dark, rarely light brown or amber.
