Mecyclothotax Sharp includes nearly 280 species from Java, Borneo, New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti and Hawaii ( Bousquet 2012: 44). So far, fifteen species of the genus are known from New Guinea, but this number is far from to be complete ( Darlington 1962, 1971; Baehr 1992, 1995, 1998, 2002, 2008; Liebherr 2008).
