Arkaim 14–19.VI.1996; Chalk Hills 03–07.VI.1998, 24.VI.1999, 01.VII.2003, 25.V.2004; Novoiletzk 09.VI.1998; Verbljushka 30.V–05.VI.1998. Locally common. A total of 58 exx.
Other material studied. M. separatellus : Russia, Altai mountains, 50°16–20’N 87°50–55’E, Kuraisky hrebet 2300 m, 10.VII.2001 (88♂♂, 66♀), K. Nupponen leg.
Distribution. Locally from C and S Europe to the Ural Mountains. Outside Europe in the Altai Mountains, Turkey and the Caucasus.
Remarks. Female is brachypterous. There is only a minor variation in the length and shape of forewing of females, and hindwings are always reduced. However, females considerably vary in size, which may give an impression of a variable wing length. Females were collected most commonly early in the morning, while they were active and running among grasses.
