Description. Male. Length: 6.9–8.5 mm; width: 1.2–1.3 mm. Length of different body parts: HL AL PL ELL = 1.37 1.15 2.20 1.11 mm; width: HW PW ELW ABW = 1.2 1.22 1.06 1.13 mm.

Head and labrum black, mandibles brownish red. Labial palpi brownish yellow, antennae brownish yellow with apex of 4th and the rest segments blackish brown. Scutellum yellowish brown with margins blackish brown. Pronotum and 3rd–6th abdominal segments brownish red, 7th–8th segments black. Scutellum black brownish yellow and margins blackish brown. Elytra blackish blue with metallic shine. Legs brownish red with apex of femur and tarsi slightly black.

Head nearly round, HL/HW = 0.96, lateral and posterior margins broadly rounded. Eyes relatively large, protruded laterally, HL/EL = 3.17, diameter of eye longer than gena but slightly shorter than temple (gena eye temple = 0.39 0.35 0.31 mm). Labrum (Fig. 3A) transverse, anterior margin sinuate, a small and obtuse denticle in bottom of middle notch. Mandibles (Fig. 3C) with an obtuse bicuspidate tooth on inner margin, behind it with a corneous notch.

Pronotum nearly oviform, PL/PW = 1.08, widest in apical 1/3, broadly rounded laterally. Disc very convex, longitudinal median area smooth and glabrous, lateral areas covered with very sparse but larger punctures, denser laterally, each puncture with a blackish brown seta. Metaventrite with long oviform concave in the middle of posterior margin.

Elytra broad and nearly parallel, ELL\ELW = 1.12, ESL/ELL = 0.79, humeral angles weakly developed, posterior margin slightly sinuate. Punctures on elytra large and dense, intervals between punctures shorter than puncture diameter, each puncture with a brown or black seta. Hind wings well developed. Legs long, protarsi with 2nd segment broadest, 1st slightly narrower than 3rd, 4th narrowest, meso- and metatarsi with first four segments gradually shortened from 1st to 4th.

Abdomen long and slender, widest at 7th (5th visible) segment, where narrower than head, pronotum or elytra. Setiferous punctures on tergites moderately fine and sparse, denser laterally, base of each tergite without distinct transverse depression. Posterior margin of 8th tergite (Fig. 3E) medially with apex rounded and laterally slightly concave. Sternite punctures slightly denser and finer than tergite punctures. 7th sternite with shallow emargination, a longitudinally glabrous and half-ellipse patch in middle area. 8th sternite (Fig. 3G) with broad notch of hind margin, about 3/7 of the whole length, its bottom broadly rounded and inner sides parallel. 9th sternite (Fig. 3F) without medial line near base.

Aedeagus (Figs. 3K–M) thick and large, length/width = 2.55. Median lobe (excluding dorsal plate) bulbous and lateral margin broadly sinuate, apex acute. Dorsal plate of median lobe with basal margin slightly emarginate and broadest in middle, in lateral view apex curved ventrally, extending slightly beyond apex of parameres. Parameres slender, with apices curved ventrally. Internal armature (Figs. 3N–O) with three strongly sclerotized thorns, their apices acute and curved.

Female. Labrum (Fig. 3B) with 2 pairs of small protrusions on anterior margin, middle notch at bottom with a tiny and acute tooth. Posterior margin of 8th sternite (Fig. 3J) medially with apex rounded and laterally concave. 9th sternite (Fig. 3I) length/width = 1.80, about half as long as in male, basal margin with a W-shaped notch.

Remarks. This species can be easily distinguished from the other species of the subgenus Paederus s. str. by the indistinct middle notch of the anterior margin of labrum (Fig. 3A), the shape of the aedeagus and arrangement of its internal armature.

Distribution. China (Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Jilin, Tianjin); Russia, South Korea, North Korea, Japan.
