1971 Cypridea indiennensis densipunctata n. ssp. —Krömmelbein & Weber, p. 11–12, pl. 1, fig. 1.

Diagnosis: A subspecies of C. indiennensis Krömmelbein 1965 , with densely spaced pits and strong pustulate upper shell surface.

Holotype: Carapace, BfB 7767.

Paratypes: Not deposited.

Description and Affinities: In carapace outline quite similar to indiennensis indiennensis but larger, on the whole somewhat stockier with a strongly protruding anterior cardinal angle. It is possible that indiennensis densipunctata n. ssp. falls within the range of variation of indiennensis indiennensis . However, since both subspecies are found in widely separated regions – South America and West Africa – the appearance of complete species similarity should be avoided and for the moment preference should be given to a subspecies distinction. Of course, we cannot rule out the possibility of a separate species.

Dimensions: Holotype, length 1.25mm, height 0.80mm, width 0.58mm.
