Description

Male. Body reddish brown, mouthparts and tarsi lighter; BL 1.48–1.52. Head ( Figure 3H View Figure 3 ) wider than long, HL 0.30–0.31, HW 0.36–0.37. Vertexal foveae indistinct, posterior edge of foveae located at level of posterior margin of eyes; LE: LP = 1.75: 1. Eyes well-developed, prominent, each comprises about 20 facets. Antennae with scapes thick and large; pedicels larger than antennomeres III, III–IV subequal in width, V–VI subequal in width, slightly wider than IV, VII–VIII subequal in width, slightly wider than VI, IX–XI ( Figure 5B View Figure 5 ) strongly clubbed; semi-membranous apophysis on antennomere IX as in Figure 7H View Figure 7 ; antennomere X much wider than long, XI ( Figure 6F View Figure 6 ) with two small blunt basal protuberances sparsely covered with long apical setae.

Pronotum about as long as wide, PL 0.36–0.37, PW 0.37–0.39. Elytra combined much wider than long, EL 0.43–0.44, EW 0.60–0.61. Abdomen wider than long, AL 0.39–0.40, AW 0.54–0.56; tergite IV twice as long as next. Length of aedeagus ( Figure 8H View Figure 8 ) 0.17.

Habitat and distribution

Sifted from the mixed leaf litter of a broad-leaved forest. Southwest China (Yunnan).

Etymology

The specific name refers to the small body size.

Remarks

The new species is placed closest to S. minutus and S. excavatus by sharing the protuberances of antennomere XI being small, and the more basal protuberance lacking tuft of setae. It can be separated by the larger size, elytra each with four basal foveae and the apophysis of antennomere IX being long and located basally. While S. minutus is distinctive within the genus by elytra possessing three basal foveae, coupled with the small body size and the apophysis of antennomere IX located subapically. Sathytes excavatus is best separated by the lower protuberance of antennomere XI with two large apical setae and being longer than the more apical one.
