Material examined. INDIA: KARNATAKA: Bengaluru, Kengeri, 1 female, 11.ix.2012 (YPT), 3 females, 4.x.2012 (YPT), Coll. K. Veenakumari; Bengaluru, Attur, 1 female, 29.ix.2012 (YPT), 1 female, 8.x.2012 (PFT), 3 females, 28.i.2013 (YPT), 1 female, 14.ii.2013 (YPT), Coll. K. Veenakumari. (8 females, NBAII; 2 females, ZDAMU)
INDIA: KARNATAKA: Mandya, Pandavpura, 1 female, 4.i.2012, Coll. FR Khan. (ZDAMU) Comments. This is a well-known species, redescribed and illustrated by Rosen & Alon (1983). It was described from Australia, and later recorded from Malaysia, Samoa, Israel, and India (Andaman & Nicobar Islands; Hayat 2006). It is here recorded for the first time from Karnataka State.
Globulencyrtus Hoffer ( Figs 19–27 View FIGURES 19 – 22 View FIGURES 23 – 27 )
Globulencyrtus Hoffer, 1975: 91 . Type species Semen politum Hoffer, 1957 , by monotypy and original designation.
A diagnosis of Globulencyrtus is given below based on the original description by Hoffer (1975), the description of an Australian species by Simutnik & Trjapitzin (2008) and the two Indian specimens.
Female. Body convex, short, compact. Head sublenticular; occipital margin sharp; frontovertex broad, at least 0.4× head width; ocelli small and arranged in an obtuse-angled triangle; antennal torulus in line with or slightly below lower margin of eye, and separated from mouth margin by at least 2× torulus height. Mandible with two teeth and a dorsal truncation. Antennal formula, 1163; scape cylindrical and elongate; dimensions of funicle segments variable, slightly broader than long to longer than broad; clava 3-segmented and shorter than funicle.
Mesosoma. Pronotum and at least anterior part of mesoscutum hidden by posterior part of head; pronotum shorter than mesoscutum; mesoscutum with posterior margin truncate (straight); scutellum with both posterior and anterior margins truncate; axilla small and elongated; tegula large; metanotum and propodeum not visible in cardmounted specimens, but in a specimen dissected and mounted on slide, metanotum appears as a very narrow strip and propodeum also as a narrow strip except laterally expanded with spiracles visible ( Fig. 25 View FIGURES 23 – 27 ). Fore wing rudiments sclerotized or membranous, subtriangular, posteriorly reaching to about apex of scutellum and the two wing rudiments widely separated posteriorly; hind wing not detected. Legs with fore and hind femora robust; tarsal formula, 5–5–5.
Metasoma. TI of gaster 3–4× as broad as long and longer than TII–TVI individually; TII–TVI narrow strips; median length of TVII slightly shorter to distinctly longer than length of TI; hypopygium extending nearly to apex of gaster ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 19 – 22 ); ovipositor with third vulvulae free ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 23 – 27 ).
Male. Unknown.
Hosts. Coineau & Davis (1999, not seen, but noted from Simutnik & Trjapitzin 2008) recorded G. politus (Hoffer) as a parasitoid of the predatory mite, Microcaeculus steineri delamarei Coineau (Acarina: Caeculidae ). Hosts are unknown for the type material of G. politus , G. dahmsi Simutnik & Trjapitzin , and the Indian specimens.
Distribution. The type species is known from the Palaearctic ( France, Mongolia, Slovakia), and is recorded here for the first time from India. A second species, G. dahmsi , was described from Australia (Simutnik & Trjapitzin 2008).
Comments. Globulencyrtus is similar to Semen Hoffer (1954, type species S. apterum Hoffer ) but differs in the following characters: head posteriorly overlapping at least the pronotum and anterior part of mesoscutum; axilla narrow, elongate, small sclerite on each side of scutellum; apex of scutellum truncate; tegula large, about as long as anterior margin of the fore wing; fore wing small, the two wings widely separated posteriorly. In Semenhead posteriorly overlapping only pronotum; axilla small but normal, triangular; tegula small; fore wing posteriorly broad, with right wing overlapping left wing posteriorly. The genera Globulencyrtus and Semen belong to the tribe Discodini Hoffer (1954; see also Noyes 2010).
