Conus coffeae Gmelin View in CoL
( Fig. 3M–O View FIGURE 3 )
Localities: Kavaratti and Minicoy
Habitat: Rocky intertidal, subtidal, lagoons, inner reef platform
Depth: 0.2– 8 m
Specimens examined, observed: 5, 12
Length: 19–23 mm
Remarks: Although this is the first report of this species as Conus coffeae from Lakshadweep, Venkataraman et al. (2004, 2012) listed it from there under its well known junior synonym, C. scabriusculus Dillwyn. Discovery of the long lost holotype of C. coffeae Gmelin by Coomans and de Visser (1987), also illustrated by Kohn (1992: Figs. 79, 80), allowed replacement by the earlier name. Franklin et al. (2013) recorded it from Andaman and Nicobar islands.
