Eurychilella discoidalis (Reuter) View in CoL
(Fig. 26)
Sixeonotus discoidalis Reuter, 1912: 45 View in CoL (orig. descrip.).
Tenthecoris nannus Carvalho, 1948b: 280 (orig. descrip.); Schuh, 1995: 580 (cat., lapsus). Synonymized by Carvalho, 1953a: 347.
Eurychilella discoidalis: Carvalho, 1953a: 347 View in CoL (n. comb., key).
Diagnosis. Overall coloration red to yellowish orange; scutellum, inner margin of corium, and clavus largely dark. Length 2.50–3.00 mm.
Host. Caladium sp. [ Araceae ] ( Ferreira et al., 2001).
Distribution. Brazil (Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Santa Catarina) (Carvalho, 1957).
Discussion. Even though Carvalho (1953a) synonymized his own Tenthecoris nannus under E. discoidalis, Schuh (1995) listed it as a valid species in the genus Tenthecoris . We have examined specimens of both species ( E. discoidalis and T. nannus ) determined by Carvalho and agree that this material is conspecific. Because no other taxonomic treatments of T. nannus have appeared since Carvalho’s (1953a) synonymy, we consider Schuh’s (1995) listing a lapsus.
Minas Gerais specimens examined. 1 ɗ, 1 Ψ, Viçosa, Aug. 1943, J. C. M. Carvalho ( USNM).
