Syringophiloidus philomelosus View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs. 24 View FIGURE 24 and 25 View FIGURE 25 )
Type host: Turdus philomelos Brehm ( Passeriformes : Turdidae ). Type locality: Jordan.
Description. FEMALE (holotype). Total body length 715 (670–710 in 5 paratypes). Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum apunctate. Each medial branch of peritremes with 8–10 chambers, each lateral branch with 9–10 chambers. Stylophore punctate, 170 (170–180) long. Movable cheliceral digit 140 (140–145) long. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield punctate on whole surface. Length ratio of setae vi: ve: si 1:1.3:1.7–1.8. All propodonotal setae and setae d2 serrate, other idiosomal setae smooth. Hysteronotal shield sparsely punctate, not fused to pygidial shield. Setae d2 insignificantly longer (1.1–1.2 times) than e2. Pygidial shield densely punctate, with indiscernible anterior margin. Setae h1 and f1 subequal in length. Length ratio ag1: ag2: ag3 1.1–1.3:1:1.4–1.5. Genital plate present, bases of setae ag2 and ag3 situated on margin of this shield. Setae ps2 1.3 times longer than ps1. Both pairs of genital setae subequal in length. Coxal fields I–IV punctate. Setae 3c 3 times longer than 3b. Legs. Fan-like setae p’ and p” of legs III and IV with 5–6 tines. Length ratio of setae tc’III–IV: tc”III–IV 1:1.6. Lengths of setae: vi (30), ve 40 (40), si (50–60), se 195 (150–190), c1 220 (220–225), c2 180 (175–180), d1 165 (150–175), d2 155 (150–165), e2 (135–160), f1 30 (30), f2 200 (190–200), h1 30 (30), h2 345, ps1 15 (15), ps2 20 (20), g1 30 (30), g2 30 (30–35), ag1 150 (145–155), ag2 120 (120–140), ag3 185 (160–200), tc’III–IV 40 (40–45), tc”III–IV 65 (65), 3b 30 (30–35), 3c 90 (90–100), l’RIII 40 (40–45), l’RIV 35 (30–35).
MALE. Unknown.
Type material. Turdus philomelos Brehm ( Passeriformes : Turdidae ): female holotype and 9 female paratypes ( AMU –SYR.186) (sec.); JORDAN, Al-Dhleil near Amman, 5 March 2003, coll. M. Skoracki.
Type material deposition. All type material deposited in the AMU, except 1 female paratype in the ZISP and 1 female paratype in the ZSM .
Host range and habitat. Monoxenous species inhabiting quills of secondary feathers of Turdus philomelos .
Distribution. Jordan.
Etymology. The name philomelosus refers to the specific name of the host.
Differential diagnosis. This new species is morphologically similar to Syringophiloidus minor . In females of both species, each medial branch of the peritremes has more than 5 chambers; the hysteronotal shield is present and punctate; setae si are shorter than 100; dorsal setae are thin and ornamented. Females of S. philomelosus are distinguished from S. minor by the following characters: in females of S. philomelosus , each medial branch of the peritremes has 9–10 chambers; setae ps2 are 1.3 times longer than ps1; setae tc” of legs III and IV are 1.6 times longer than tc’III–IV; the lengths of hysteronotal setae d1 and d2 are 150–175 and 150–165 respectively. In females of S. minor , each medial branch of the peritremes has 6 chambers; setae ps1 and ps2 are subequal in the length; setae tc” of legs III and IV are twice as long as than tc’III–IV; the lengths of hysteronotal setae d1 and d2 are 115 and 110–135, respectively.
