Type host: Luscinia megarhynchos Brehm ( Passeriformes : Turdidae ). Type locality: Italy.
FEMALE (holotype and 5 paratypes). Total body length 645–715. Gnathosoma . Hypostomal apex with pair of large, slender and blunt-ended protuberances. Each medial branch of peritremes with 3–4 chambers, each lateral branch with 5–8 chambers. Stylophore constricted posteriorly, apunctate. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield rectangular in shape, laterally punctate. Length ratio of setae vi:ve:si 1:1.5:2.5–3. Setae c2 situated slightly anterior to level of setae se. Hysteronotal shields absent. Pygidial shield punctate. Setae f1 and h1 short and subequal in length. Coxal fields I–IV densely punctate. Setae 3b half length of 3c. Legs. Fan-like setae p’ and p” of legs III and IV with 14–15 tines. Setae tc’ and tc” of legs III and IV subequal in length. Lengths of setae: vi 60–80, ve 100–115, si 190–210, se 215–225, c1 220–255, c2 195–225, d1 180–235, d2 130–150, e2 175–225, f1 60–70, f2 380–480, h1 70–80, h2 430–505, ps1 and ps2 25–30, g1 30–40, g2 40–50, l’RI 20–25, l’RII 30, l’RIII 40–50, l’RIV 30–35, tc’ and tc” of legs III–IV 60–70, 3b 75, 3c 160–170.
MALE (4 paratypes). Total body length 570. Gnathosoma . Hypostomal apex with pair of short, sharp-ended protuberances. Each medial branch of peritremes with 3 chambers, each lateral branch with 7–8 chambers. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield slightly concave on anterior margin, laterally punctate. Length ratio of setae vi:ve:si 1:1.5:2.5–3. Setae c2 and se situated at same transverse level. Hysteronotal shield present, bearing bases of setae d1, e2, f2 and h2. Setae d2 slightly longer than e2. Setae h2 6 times longer than f2. Legs. Fan-like seta p’ and p” of legs III and IV with 9–10 tines. Setae 3c twice as long as 3b. Coxal fields apunctate. Setae tc’ and tc” of legs III and IV subequal in length. Lengths of setae: vi 40–50, ve 70–75, si 100–155, se 165, c1 130, c2 120–170, d1 20–25, d2 30–45, e2 20 –25, h2 245–255, f2 40, tc’III–IV and tc”III–IV 50, l’RII 25, l’RIII 35–40.
Type material examined. Luscinia megarhynchos Brehm ( Passeriformes : Muscicapidae ): female holotype and paratypes: 7 females, 6 males, 8 nymphs ( AMU –SYR.72) (sec.); ITALY, 1911, no other data. Host specimen deposited in the MNHW.
Type material deposition. Female holotype deposited in the AMU , paratypes in the AMU and ZISP .
Non-type material examined. Luscinia svecica (Linnaeus) (Muscicapidae) : 12 females, 4 males and 5 nymphs ( AMU –SYR.73) (sec.); EUROPE, 1909, no other data. Host specimen in the MNHW .
Material deposition. All material deposited in the AMU.
Host range and habitat. Oligoxenous species inhabiting quills of secondaries of Luscinia megarhynchos and L. svecica .
Distribution. Europe.
