Type host: Muscicapa dauurica Pallas ( Passeriformes : Muscicapidae ). Type locality: Japan. Description. FEMALE (holotype). Total body length 705 (715–815 in 6 paratypes). Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum apunctate. Hypostomal apex with 2 pairs of protuberances. Each medial branch of peritremes with 3–4 chambers, each lateral branch with 8–10 chambers. Length of apunctate stylophore and movable cheliceral digit 160 (160– 170) and (115–120) respectively. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield concave on anterior margin, sculptured laterally and sparsely punctate near bases of setae ve and si, bearing bases of setae vi, ve, si and c1. Length ratio of setae vi:ve:si 1:1.5–1.8:6.1–8.3. Setae se situated anterior to level of setae c1. Two small and apunctate hysteronotal shields present. Weakly sclerotized pygidial shield punctate near bases of setae f1 and f2. Genital setae g1 1.3–1.6 times longer than ag2. Setae ag1 and ag3 3–4.5 times longer than ag2. Coxal fields I–IV sparsely punctate. Setae 3c 2–2.6 times longer than 3b. Legs. Fan-like setae p’ and p” of legs III and IV with 10 tines. Setae tc” 1.7–2.2 times longer than tc’ of legs III and IV. Apodemes I fused to apodemes II in anterior part of apodemes II. Lengths of setae: vi 40 (40–50), ve 70 (65–80), si 250 (250–270), se 295 (270–300), c1 285 (255–275), c2 280 (255–300), d1 (220), d2 230 (230–260), e2 270 (230–270), f1 55 (55–70), f2 455 (420), h1 55 (50–60), h2 495 (445–470), ps1 and ps2 35 (30–35), g1 75 (70–95), g2 95 (70–95), ag1 (250–305), ag2 60 (55–70), ag3 (250–355), l’RIII (40–50), l’RIV 45 (40–50), tc’III–IV 40 (35–45), tc”III–IV 75 (65–75), 3b 45 (50–65), 3c (105–145).

MALE. Unknown.

Type material. Muscicapa dauurica Pallas ( Passeriformes : Muscicapidae ): female holotype and 9 female paratypes ( AMU –SYR.133) (sec.); JAPAN, no other data. Host specimen deposited in the MNHW.

Type deposition. All type material deposited in the UAM, except 1 female paratype in the ZISP .

Host and habitat. Monoxenous species inhabiting quills of secondary feathers of Muscicapa dauurica .

Distribution. Japan.

Etymology. The name muscicapus refers to the generic name of the host.

Diffrential diagnosis. S. muscicapicus is morphologically similar to S. turdus . In females of both species, the hypostomal apex is ornamented by 2 pairs of protuberances; setae c1 are situated posterior to the level of setae se; terminal setae h1 and f1 are in several times shorter than f2 and h2; genital setae are shorter than aggenital setae ag1 and ag3; the pygidial shield is small and weakly sclerotized. This new species is distinguished from S. turdus by the following characters: in females of S. muscicapicus , the small hysteronotal shields are present; the total body length is 705–815; the lateral branch of the peritremes has 8–10 chambers; the length of stylophore is 160–180 and tectals setae tc’ and tc” of legs III and IV are unequal in the length. In females of S. turdus , the hysteronotal shields are absent; the total body length is 1080–1125; the longitudidal branch of the peritremes has 11–13 chambers; the length of stylophore is 255–265 and tectals setae tc’ and tc” of legs III and IV are subequal in the length.
