Type species: Mironovia phasiani Chirov and Kravtsova, 1995 by original designation.
Diagnosis. FEMALE. Medium-sized quill mites (length 590–750). Gnathosoma: Hypostomal apex smooth or with 1 pair of blunt-ended protuberances. Two pairs of hypostomal lips present. Lateral hypostomal teeth absent. Peritremes M-shaped, with clearly visible chambers in each branch. Movable cheliceral digits dentate, each with 2–3 teeth. Stylophore constricted posteriorly. Idiosoma . Propodonotal setae lightly ornamented. Six pairs of propodonotal setae present arranged 2–2–2. Propodonotal shield entire, without pocket-like structures, bearing bases of setae vi, ve, si, se and c1. Hysteronotal shield fused to pygidial shield. Hysteronotal setae d1, d2, e2, long or mediumsized. Setae d1 situated closer to setae d2 than to e2. Terminal setae h1 and f1 short, h2 and f2 long. Pseudanal, genital and aggenital setal series represented by 2 pairs, each. Legs. Legs I slightly thicker than II–IV. Legs with full complement of setae. Antaxial and paraxial members of claw pair subequal in size and shape, without basal angle. Apodemes I slightly divergent, not fused to apodemes II, both apodemes disimilar in shape.
MALE. Characteristics as in females except: total body length 570–610; hypostomal apex smooth; movable cheliceral digit edentate; propodonotal setae arranged 2–2–1–1; hysteronotal setae d1, d2 and e2 short; terminal setae f2 short, h2 long.
Host range. Mites of this genus are associated with galliform birds of the family Phasianidae ( Table 22).
Habitat. Unknown.
Species included. At present only three species were described from the Oriental (1 species) and Palaearctic (2 species) regions. The Palaearctic fauna includes only 2 species, M. phasiani and M. coturnae .
