Type species: Kethleyana gelochelidoni Kivganov, 1995 by original designation.

Diagnosis. FEMALE. Medium sized mites (length 957–965). Gnathosoma . Hypostomal apex with 1 pair of small protuberances. Lateral hypostomal teeth absent. Peritremes M-shaped, with clearly visible chambers. Movable cheliceral digit edentate. Stylophore constricted posteriorly. Idiosoma . All idiosomal setae smooth. Six pairs of propodonotal setae present arranged 3–2–1. Propodonotal shield entire,without pocket-like structures, bearing bases of setae vi, ve, si, se and c1. Hysteronotal and pygidial shields absent. Setae d1 situated equidistant to setae d2 and e2. Setae d1, d2, e2, f2, h1 and h2 long, setae f1 short. Each of pseudanal, genital and aggenital setal series represented by 2 pairs. Legs. Legs I–IV subequal in thickness and with full complement of setae. Antaxial and paraxial members of claw pair subequal in size and shape, strongly recurved, without basal angle. Apodemes I divergent, fused to apodemes II, both apodemes similar in shape and size.

MALE. Unknown.

Host range. This genus is associated with charadriiform birds of the family Sternidae .

Habitat. Quills of flight feathers.

Species included. The type species only, K. gelochelidoni .
