Type locality: Southern Russia.
Distribution: South of the Palearctics, from France and North Africa, to Central Asia ( Gorochov and Llorente 2001).
Biogeographic zones: Shoreline, Tellian Atlas.
Bioclimatic zones: Subhumid, semiarid.
Records in Algeria: Surroundings of Oran [35°40'N 0°39'W] ( Lucas 1849, as Gryllus melas Charpentier, 1825 ). Sidi Ferruch [Sidi fredj] [36°46'N 2°51'E]; Hammam bou Hadjar [35°22'N 0°58'W] ( Chopard 1943). Si Mustapha [36°43'N 3°36'E]; Rouiba [36°44'N 3°17'E] (Mohamed Sahnoun pers. obs.).
