Melissoptila View in CoL includes approximately 54 species in three subgenera ( Michener 2007). The species of the genus are distributed from the United States to southern Argentina and Chile ( Urban 1998a; Michener 2007), being especially diverse in South America ( Urban 1998a; Silveira et al. 2002). The species present in Chile are: Melissoptila chilena Urban View in CoL , M. dama View in CoL and M. tandilensis Holmberg. View in CoL
