Description. Body yellowish to brown, apical patch on vertex medium. Basal triangles of mesonotum indistinct. Specimen collected from Yunnan slightly larger than those from Guangxi and Hainan.

Male 2S abdominal apodemes well developed, specimens from Guangxi and Hainan with abdominal apodemes extended to 7th sternite; specimens from Yunnan can be divided into two groups, one group with well sclerotized abdominal apodemes, extended to 7th sternite (Fig. 6k), another group with weakly sclerotized abdominal apodemes, extended to 5th sternite (Fig. 6l), other indistinguishable characters of these two groups suggested the differences of abdominal apodemes might be resulted from different dates of emergence. Anal tube appendage broad basally, tapering and arcuate apically, length of apical hook varies in different localities, specimens from Yunnan with long apical hook, nearly reached ventral margin of pygofer side (Fig. 6b), specimens from Hainan and Guangxi with short apical hook, far from reaching ventral margin of pygofer side (Fig. 6c).

Pygofer side (Fig. 6a) elongated, narrowing distally, with several microsetae at dorso-caudal angle. Subgenital plate (Figs 6a, e) with row of microsetae along dorsal outer margin from near base to apex which sparse distally, some microsetae near ventral margin, with about 3 macrosetae medially. Style (Fig. 6f) with inner protrusion shifted basad, apical part curved laterad gradually. Connective (Fig. 6g) with manubrium long and broad. Aedeagal shaft (Figs 6h–j) long and slim, slightly concave apically in caudal view, with pair of slim processes subapically directed dorsad; preatrial process thick, gradually narrowing towards apex, curved dorsad, apex candle-shaped and twisted.

Measurement. length male 3.60–4.07mm, female 3.57–4.26mm.

Material examined. Holotype: ♂, China, Yunnan Prov., Lancang, Munai, 1100m, 2 xii 1999, bamboo, coll. I. Dworakowska. Paratypes: 32♂ 36♀, same date as holotype; 1♂ 3♀, Hainan Prov., Qiongzhong, 5 vi 1983, coll. Zhang Yalin; 7♂, Guangxi Prov., Ningming, Mt. Paiyang, 300m, 27 v 1984, coll. Li Fasheng.

Deposition. Specimens from Yunnan and Hainan are deposited in Entomological Museum, NWAFU, Yangling, China; specimens from Guangxi in CAU, Beijing, China.

Remarks. The new species is similar to S. triacantha sp. nov., but the abdominal apodemes are much longer, the anal tube appendage is longer and hooked apically, the manubrium of the connective is broader, the aedeagal shaft lacks an unpaired apical process but has a pair of subapical processes directed dorsad, and the preatrial process is broader.

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin word “ candela ”, referring to the candle-shaped preatrial process.
