The karyotype of H. fasciatus is composed of 2n = 46 chromosomes including 6m /sm and 40 st/t (FN = 52) (Tab. I). The 18S rRNA genes, localized in the chromosomes of a single specimen, were found on two single acrocentric chromosomes of similar size and morphology and possibly homologues, one on the short arms, the other one in telomeric position, in the long arms ( Fig. 2 View Figure 2 ).
