Type species. Lamprogrammus niger Alcock 1891 View in CoL , by monotypy.
Diagnosis. Ophidiid with a terminal mouth; lateral line covered with small scales, beneath which lie vertically oriented, spindle-shaped neuromasts, each of which mounted on a large, vertically elongate scale; head bones cavernous and poorly ossified; 0–1 basibranchial tooth plate; pelvic fins absent in adults.
