Material examined. MOVI 38796 (1, 149 mm SL), AG1-6.

Diagnosis. Body elongate with depressed head; some or all jaw teeth separate and pointed; dorsal and anal fin with 100–116 and 76–86 rays, respectively; no sharp retrorse suborbital spine.

Distribution. Western South Atlantic and eastern South Pacific ( Nielsen et al. 1999), at depths from 140– 1649 m.

Remarks. First record in Brazilian waters. Collected from a single station off Rio de Janeiro, from 1640 to 1649 m depth.
