Neobythites monocellatus Nielsen 1999

Material examined. MOVI 39139 (1, 97 mm SL), E-0500.

Diagnosis. No preopercular spine; dorsal fin with 1 ocellus, none on anal fin.

Distribution. Western Atlantic from off Honduras to off Bahia, at depths from 115 to 440 m.

Remarks. First record in Brazilian waters. Collected from a single station off Bahia, from 360 to 433 m. The 97 mm specimen falls within the variation of all the characters listed by Nielsen (1999, Table 5) which was based on the examination of 71 specimens.
