Halecium cymiforme Allman, 1888 View in CoL

( Fig. 1 View FIGURE 1. A, B T)

Material examined. Corral, Chaihuin/Huiro, lat. -39.95000, long. -73.61667, 09.xi.2011, 12 m, sample S11: female colony with stems up to 15 mm high, on sponge-covered hydroid (MHNG-INVE-86224); 08.x.2012, 6‒ 10 m, sample S14: male colony with stems up to 7 mm high, on worm tube (MHNG-INVE-86225).

Remarks. Only the female gonothecae were described previously ( Galea et al. 2009). A male colony occurs in the present collection. Its gonothecae arise from within the hydrothecae, and are broadly ovoid and somewhat lenticular in side view, 560–780 µm long and 425–515 µm wide, tapering basally into a short, indistinct pedicel.

Distribution in Chile. Puerto del Hambre ( Allman 1888), South of Chiloé ( Galea et al. 2009), and Corral (present study).

World records. Not known from elsewhere.
