Comments

This species was originally described as an Osiris . Although we examined a male and a female paratype, Almeida’s original description easily allows recognizing her species as an Osirinus : (1) head wider than long; (2) mandible with only one subapical tooth; (3) small and widely separate dorsal pronotal lobes; (4) male with pygidial plate; (5) eyes slightly converging below; (6) small body size; (7) parocular area, gena and mesepisternum with abundant plumose setae. The first four characters suggest a species of Protosiris or Osirinus , while the last three indicate an Osirinus .

The type specimens of santiagoi are from an area of ‘cerrado’ (Brazilian savannas) in the state of Paraná. The specimens we are attributing to this species also all came from areas occupied by cerrado. Most of Almeida’s specimens had a dark mesosoma (except the legs), but two of her females had a bright reddish brown mesosoma. Among the material we examined, only the male from Botucatu , São Paulo, had a dark mesosoma .

The genitalia, S7 and S8 of a male paratype are depicted in figures 11–15 View FIGS , respectively.
