Diagnosis. Second flagellomere with subapical style; vein R 2+3 arising from Rs about ¾ of the distance between R 1 and r-m; genital fork V-shaped.

Description. Head. Narrower than thorax; male and female dichoptic; ocellar triangle from light brown to dark brown, yellowish gray pruinose. Frons longer than wide (2.0X longer than wide in P. minuta ), medially depressed. Face yellow to dark brown. Proboscis dark yellow to dark brown. Postcranium mainly light brown to dark brown, yellowish gray pruinose, covered by sparse setae. Antenna brown to dark brown, yellowish gray pruinose; scape small; pedicel near as long as wide (as long as wide in P. angusta , P. minuta ); first flagellomere oval or coniform, generally longer than wide (wider than long in P. minuta ); second flagellomere with subapical style. Thorax. Mesonotum brown to dark brown (light brown in P. parakake sp. nov.), subshiny to matte, yellowish gray pruinose; yellow marks on: postpronotal lobe, postalar callus (dark brown in P. flavitibia and P. dominicana ) and notopleuron (dark brown in P. dominicana ). Scutellum yellow to dark brown, yellowish gray pruinose; anepisternum brown to dark brown (light brown in P. parakake sp. nov.), yellowish gray pruinose, with varying patterns of yellow areas. Legs yellow to dark brown, yellowish gray pruinose; coxae with yellow setae on anteroventral surface; tibiae yellow (posterior tibia dark brown in P. angusta ). Wing. Hyaline to slightly smoky, veins yellow to brown; C ending between R 4+5 and M 1; R 2+3 arising from Rs in about ¾ of distance between R 1 and r-m, arising in angle of 60º to 80º; dm complete, apically narrow; posterior veins of medial and anal areas reaching wing margin; A 2 absent. Halter whitish yellow to brown. Abdomen. Tergites light yellow to dark brown, yellowish gray pruinose; tergites usually with whitish yellow to yellow band on posterior margin. Male terminalia. Ejaculatory apodeme cross shaped, with medial arms well developed; anterior arm of parameral sheath spatulate; basiphallus conical, distiphallus ventrally curved (not curved in P. yeatesi sp. nov.). Gonostylus conspicuous or not. Female. Genital fork V-shaped.

Geographic records. Nearctic ( USA and Mexico) and Neotropical ( Bahamas, Brazil, Chile, Curacao, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Southern Mexico, Venezuela).
