Recently, Acevedo et al. (2016) proposed that popu- lations of Rhinella marina ( Linnaeus, 1758) distributed west of the Andean cordilleras should be considered a different species from the eastern populations. There- fore, the eastern populations should maintain the name R. marina and R. horribilis should be revalidated for the western populations. According to this concept, the Magdalena river valley populations correspond to R. horribilis ( Wiegmann, 1833) .
