Panisea yunnanensis S.C.Chen & Z.H.Tsi, Acta Bot. View in CoL Yunnan. 2: 301, 1980
Specimens examined:— KACHIN. Putao District: 2135 m, 2 Nov 1931, Kingdon-Ward 10144 ( BM), ident. uncertain; same loc., 1830 m, 22 Oct 1953, Kingdon-Ward 21682 ( BM), ident. uncertain . CHIN. Mindat District : fide Aung et al. (2020: 94) .
Distribution:— Myanmar, Vietnam and southwestern and southern China.
Notes:— The first two specimens cited above are similar to P. yunnanensis but differ in the weakly clawed oblonglanceolate lip (the type of P. yunnanensis has an oblong-spathulate lip that is prominently clawed). It could here not be ascertained whether they fall into the range of variation of this species, and further work is currently being undertaken. Kingdon-Ward 10144 (BM) has previously been identified as possibly belonging to the closely related Ischnogyne Schltr. by E.F. de Vogel. The only currently known species of Ischnogyne , I. mandarinorum (Kraenzl.) Schltr. , has flowers three times larger than those of FKW 10144 and is currently considered endemic to China. Generally, it is not clear whether Ischnogyne is nested in Panisea because it has apparently not yet benefitted from DNA studies.
