Heterotypic synonym: Paphiopedilum rhizomatosum S.C.Chen & Z.J.Liu, J. Wuhan Bot. Res. 20: 12, 2002. Type :— MYANMAR. Upper part: 20 Oct 2001, cult., Liu 21024 (holotype: NOCC) .
Specimen examined:— UPPER MYANMAR. Type .
Distribution:— Upper Myanmar and southwestern China.
Notes:— We have followed Liu et al. (2009) in this synonymy. The species is similar to P. barbigerum Tang & F.T.Wang but in the wild differs in the rhizomatous habit. According to Koopowitz (2018: 183), the rhizomatous habit disappears in cultivation. The long rhizomes were the sole distinguishing character, and it may be merely an ecotype.
