Aerides houlletiana Rchb. f., Gard. Chron. 1872: 1194, 1872. Aerides falcata var. houlletiana (Rchb.f.) A.H. Kent in H.J.Veitch, Man. Orchid. Pl. 7: 68, 1891.

Specimens examined:— MANDALAY. Pyinoolwin District : 915−1065 m, 25 May 1913, Lace 6204 ( E, K) ; Myingyan District: 1200–1500 m, Khin Myo Htwe 33 ( TNS [s]), fide Tanaka et al. (2015: 72). TENASSERIM. Parish s.n. ( K) ; same loc., Wallich s.n. ( K). WITHOUT LOCALITY. Cult. Wardle s.n. ( K) . Also reported from Putao District in Kachin State by Saw Lwin (2007: 255–256), but we have not seen any material from this area.

Distribution:— Northeastern India, Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina and southwestern China.

Notes:— Construed in the broad sense to include var. houlletiana , which generally has shorter leaves, yellow (not white) ground colouring in the flowers and a strong citronella scent. The type of Aerides falcata was an 1847 specimen from Sir George Larpent displayed at a meeting of the Horticultural Society, with the origin given as West Indies.

Distribution:—?Endemic.

Note:— Believed to be a natural hybrid between A. falcata and A. odorata ( Gower 1882) .

Distribution:— Endemic.

Note:— According to the protologue, a natural hybrid between A. falcata and A. crassifolia .
