Heterotypic synonym: Calanthe wardii W.W.Sm. , Notes Roy. Bot. Gard. Edinburgh 13: 194, 1921. Types:— MYANMAR. Kachin State: Myitkyina District , 3050 m, 11 Jun 1914, Kingdon-Ward 1734 (syntype: E; isosyntype: BM); same loc., 2135 m, Jun 1914, Kingdon- Ward 1661 (syntype: E) ; same loc., 2135 m, Jun 1919, Farrer 1040 (syntype: E) .
Specimens examined:— KACHIN. Myitkyina District : types cited; same loc., 13 Jun 1938, Naw Mu Pa 17417 ( AMES, K). Also reported from Sagaing Region, Chin State, Magway and Mandalay regions and Shan State by Kress et al. (2003: 68) [as Calanthe wardii ], but we have not seen material from these areas.
Distribution:— The eastern Himalayas, northeastern India, Myanmar and southwestern China.
Note:— Sikkim plants have greenish yellow flowers and possibly Naw Mu Pa 17417 (AMES, K) with white flowers is a colour form.
