Bulbophyllum pseudopicturatum (Garay) Sieder & Kiehn, CITES Orchid Checkl. View in CoL 5: 406, 2009
Basionym: Cirrhopetalum pseudopicturatum Garay, Harvard Pap. Bot. View in CoL 4: 308, 1999.
Heterotypic synonym: Cirrhopetalum punctatum Gower, Garden (London, 1871−1927) 21: 217, 1882. Type:— ORIGIN UNKNOWN (probably Myanmar). 1 Apr 1882, cult. RBG Kew s.n. (holotype: lost; neotype, designated here: cult. RBG Kew s.n. [comm. Curnov] K, note below) .
Cirrhopetalum picturatum auct. non Lodd.: Hook.f., Bot. Mag. 111: t. 6802, 1885.
Bulbophyllum picturatum auctt. plur. non (Lodd.) Rchb.f.
Specimens examined:—? MYANMAR. Type. SHAN. Taunggyi District : 1250 m, 28 Feb 2014, Saw Lwin SL 36 ( RAF, RAF [s]); same loc ., 1765 m, 15 Jan 2016, Saw Lwin SL 265 ( RAF); southern part: 1897, Pereira s.n. ( SING) . MON. Mawlamyine District: Gilbert 11 ( W) . WITHOUT LOCALITY. Without collector s.n. ( W-R 49423 ) .
Distribution:— Myanmar and Thailand.
Notes:— The type of this species is a Parish collection (no. 23) from Thailand. Some earlier authors wrongly assumed that Parish collected the specimen in Myanmar. Study of the type of Cirrhopetalum picturatum at K-LINDL by PO shows it to be more similar to certain Philippine taxa than the present entity. Bulbophyllum picturatum as cited by Kress et al. (2003), Tanaka et al. (2015), Govaerts et al. (2020) and Aung et al. (2020) is probably a misidentification of this species. We suspect that C. punctatum described by Gower may be an error for C. picturatum and is probably the same as a plant illustrated and described by Hooker in Botanical Magazine in 1885.
Bulbophyllum psittacoglossum Rchb. f., Bot. Zeitung (Berlin) 21: 237, 1863. Type :— MYANMAR. Tenasserim: Parish 140 (holotype: K)
Homotypic synonym: Phyllorkis psittacoglossa (Rchb.f.) Kuntze, Revis. Gen . Pl. 2: 677, 1891.
Specimens examined:— TENASSERIM. Type. MON. Mawlamyine District: Jul 1863, Parish s.n. ( K), det. J. J. Vermeulen. WITHOUT LOCALITY. Cult. Veitch 85 ( W-R 52450 ). Reported from Tanintharyi Region by Kress et al. (2003: 67), but we have not seen any material from this area .
Distribution:— Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina and southwestern China.
