Bulbophyllum rufilabrum C.S.P.Parish ex Hook. f., Fl. Brit. India 5: 761, 1890. Types:— MYANMAR. Tanintharyi Region: Myeik District , Parish 262 (lectotype K, designated by Seidenfaden 1979: 129; isolectotype: W-R 2267 ). Syntype: ORIGIN NOT INDICATED (?Myanmar). Cult. Saunders s.n. (W-R?).

Bulbophyllum rufinum Rchb. f., Xenia Orchid. 3: 44, 1881. Type:—ORIGIN UNKNOWN (probably Myanmar). Without collector s.n. ( W-R 2293 )

(2017a: 58); same loc., 22 Oct 2013, Kim s.n., photo . MANDALAY. Mandalay District : Swinhoe 77 ( K) . SHAN. Unspecified : 1889, cult. Strickland s.n. ( K) ; same loc., 1895, cult. Strickland s.n. ( K) . WITHOUT LOCALITY. Parish s.n. (icon. W-R 2293 , on type sheet). Reported from Tanintharyi Region by Kress et al. (2003: 67), but we have not seen any material from this area .
Distribution:— Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina and southwestern China.
Notes:— Typification of this species requires further investigation. At the moment, the only known material identified as the type is a sheet with four sketches on it in W-R. Bulbophyllum cupreum Lindl. subsp. stenopetalum C.S.P.Parish & Rchb. f. was listed as a synonym of B. rufinum by Hooker (1890b: 188; as var. stenopetalum ), but it seems to be a different entity, so it is listed here as a taxon of uncertain status at the end of the Bulbophyllum list.
