ORIGINALLY INCLUDED SPECIES: Lonchaea dasyops Meigen, 1826 (as “ Lonchea Dasiops Mgn. ”) (with “ Dasiops Loncheus Mihi ” in synonymy).

TYPE SPECIES: Lonchaea latifrons Meigen, 1826 , by subsequent designation (I.C.Z. N., 1963: 14 [Opinion 652]) .

CURRENT STATUS: Valid genus [ teste Kovalev & Morge (1984: 248) ].

REMARKS: “ Dasiops Loncheus ” of Rondani (1856: 120) was previously considered a nomen nudum [e.g., Kovalev & Morge (1984: 249)] as it was proposed in synonymy [with Lonchea dasyops Meigen, 1826 ] and not made available by subsequent usage before 1961. In keeping with the format of other genus-group names proposed by Rondani (1856) where two names are listed as type species and one of the two is a new Rondani name, we treat Dasiops lonchea Rondani, 1856 as an unnecessary replacement name for Lonchaea dasyops Meigen, 1826 . Günter Morge submitted an application to the ICZN Commission, which was revised, summarized, and presented by China (1961). It requested that the ICZN Commission designate a type species for Dasiops Rondani, 1856 because at that time the current type species, Lonchaea dasyops Meigen, 1826 sensu Rondani, 1856 , was a misidentification for Lonchaea latifrons Meigen, 1826 . Acceptance of Lonchaea dasyops Meigen, 1826 would threaten stability because Dasiops would become the senior objective synonym of Chaetolonchaea Czerny, 1934 . The ICZN Commission voted in favor of the application and designated Lonchaea latifrons Meigen, 1826 as the type species of Dasiops Rondani, 1856 (I.C.Z.N., 1963: 14 [Opinion 652]).
