Pachycheles calculosus Haig, 1960 View in CoL
Pachycheles calculosus Haig 1960: 136 View in CoL , pl. 10, pl. 31, fig. 4; Gore & Abele 1976: 19; Gore 1982: 8; Lazarus-Agudelo & Cantera-Kintz 2007: 229.
Material examined. None.
Previous records from Panama. Gore & Abele (1976); Gore (1982); Miranda & Mantelatto (2016).
Distribution. East Pacific: Mexico, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama (Isla Venao, Panama Canal area, vicinity of Ciudad de Panamá, including Amador Causeway and “Recife de Casa de Putas”), Colombia and Ecuador ( Gore 1982; Miranda & Mantelatto 2016).
Ecology. Intertidal and shallow subtidal, known depth range: 0–8 m; under rocks, in crevices of corals and among sponges ( Haig 1960; Gore & Abele 1976).
Remarks. Pachycheles calculosus is closely related to P. greeleyi ( Rathbun, 1900) from Brazil. Both species have the carapace and P1 devoid of setae; the P1 covered with granules; the telson with seven plates; and no pleopods in males. However, in P. greeleyi , the carapace is somewhat rugose and the outer (lateral) orbital angle is produced into a distinct tooth, which is not the case in P. calculosus ( Haig 1960) .
