Augochlorodes clementis new species
( Figures 1A View Figure 1 and 2A View Figure 2 ) Augochlorodes ‘clementis’ Moure sp. nov. in Schlindwein (1995: p. 21, 92 and 126) (partim). Nomen nudum ( Engel 2000).
Diagnosis and comments
Augochlorodes clementis sp. nov. possesses a strongly reticulated mesoscutum and dense decumbent pubescence on mesoscutum and metasoma. The supraclypeal area (here treated as the space between the upper epistomal suture and the lower rim of the antennal alveolus) of this species is shorter than in the remaining species ( Figure 1A View Figure 1 ).
Schlindwein (1995) attributed the following floral associations for A. ‘clementis’ in Rio Grande do Sul: Hysterionica filiformis (Asteraceae) , Sisyrinchium megapotamicum and Sisyrinchium sp. ( Iridaceae ), Modiolasturm lateritium ( Malvaceae ), and Scoparia dulcis (Schrophulariaceae) . The ‘species’ informally named by Moure in Schlindwein (1995) is here recognized as two separate species, A. clementis sp. nov. and A. incomitatus sp. nov., and the exact plant relationships cannot be deduced from the data presented in Schlindwein (1995). The three females from Piraquara (Paraná) were collected in an unidentified species of Sisyrinchium .
Description of female holotype
Measurements. Mhw: 1.63; mhl: 1.48; den: 1.18; iem: 0.77; cl: 0.37; c–a: 0.28; c–o: 0.89; ml: 1.22; abl: 5.12.
Head. Basal elevation of labrum circular; punctation on clypeus sparse and uniform; supraclypeal area mostly sparsely punctured and without microreticulation; parocular area without a well-defined, darkened stripe, its lower portion with strong punctation; frons punctation deep and coarse.
Mesoscutum. Longitudinal sulcus weak; anterior border rounded; decumbent pubescence abundant; punctures fine but with variable diameter; surface microreticulated and with a dull luster.
Scutellum . Erect setae densely branched.
Mesepisternum. Entirely covered with erect pubescence.
Metanotum. Covered with very long and plumose setae.
Metapostnotum. Dorsal portion about twice as long as metanotum; longitudinal carinae extending over the anterior one-third of its dorsal length.
Propodeum. Lateral surface with microreticulation restricted to its anterior portion; lateral pubescence erect and with short plumose setae.
Metasoma. Posterior margin of S2–S3 with fine and recurved setae, posterior margin of S4–S5 with thick and simple setae.
Body colour. Bright metallic green with dark brown legs.
