Material examined. 2 ex. Maitian River , Yiliang County, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China; 25.11°N, 103.39°E, February 2023 by Chong- Ye Li leg. GoogleMaps
Holotype. NNUH20241901 , shell height 13.34 mm, width 8.19 mm, height of the body whorl 10.02 mm.
Paratypes. 1 ex. NNUH20241302 , shell height 11.46–12.26 mm, width 7.33–7.91 mm, height of the body whorl 8.56–9.34 mm, locality and habitat same as holotype .
Locus typicus. Maitian River, Yiliang County, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China; 25.11°N, 103.39°E.
Etymology. The specific name " jiuxiangensis " is derived from Jiuxiang, Yiliang County, Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China, the collection location of the specimen. We suggest the Chinese common name as " 九乡华ĸ ".
Description. Shell small, thick, solid, conical, tan; shell comprising seven whorls, surface near smooth, growth lines no obvious, without spiral ribs, body whorl swollen, taking up most of the shell about 75%, with very faint transverse lines. Suture low. Lip thin, inner lip slightly thickened and smooth, white, outer lip purplish white. Umbilicus absent.
Operculum. Ovate, smaller than aperture, corneous, thin, brown, length 5.25 mm, width 3.45 mm, and the nucleus located at the bottom left about 1/4.
Radula. ( Fig. 3 F View Figure 3 ) Central teeth with triangle-shaped pointed major cusp, and 3 smaller cusps on each side. Lateral teeth with pointed major cusp, and 3 smaller cusps on each side. Inner marginal teeth with four and outer with nine to ten acute denticles.
Anatomy. Snout, foot and tentacles grey, around with a black pigmented. Snout broad, squarish, with long cephalic tentacles, tentacles roughly greater than snout in length.
Remarks. Outer marginal teeth with nine to ten acute denticles of H. jiuxiangensis sp. nov., which is a significant feature that distinguishes other Hua species. Hua jiuxiangensis sp. nov. is most similar to H. kunmingensis , but can nevertheless be easily separated by the acute outer marginal teeth (vs. H. kunmingensis round outer marginal teeth). The new species can also be clearly distinguished from other Hua congeners by the following features: shell smooth (vs. shell sculptured in H. aristarchorum , H. jacqueti (Dautzenberg & Fischer, 1906) and H. aubryana ), the nucleus located at the bottom left about 1/4 (vs. H. telonaria the nucleus located at the bottom left about 1/3).
Habitat and distribution. This species was collected in Maitian River, Yiliang County, Kunming City, Yunnan Province. The species inhabits rivers with a depth of less than 50 cm, slow water flow, and a substrate made of stones and sand.
