Type material: Holotype male, VENEZUELA: Aragua, Parque Nacional Henri Pittier, Rancho Grande, 10°21.047'N, 67°41.198'W, 16–18.ix.1999, about 1000 m a.s.l., sweep net & light trap, T. Andersen ( MIZA, slide mounted in Canada balsam).

Diagnostic characters: The male imago can be separated from other members of the genus by having a few apical setae on the wing membrane; anal point short, tapering, with weak lateral setae ; inferior volsella relatively low with anterior bare, digitiform projection; and megaseta not dentate.

Etymology: Named in honour of the botanist Henry Pittier, who was instrumental in setting up the National Park where the material was collected.

Male (n=1).

Total length 1.63 mm. Wing length 0.93 mm. Total length / wing length 1.77. Coloration brown, thorax dark brown, tarsi of all legs light brown.

Head. AR 0.56, ultimate flagellomere 192 m. Temporal setae 6, including 3 inner verticals, 1 outer vertical and 2 postorbitals. Clypeus with 10 setae . Tentorium, stipes and cibarial pump as in Fig. 20 View FIGURE 20 A; tentorium 92 m long, 7 m wide at sieve pore; stipes 59 m long. Palpomere lengths in m: 12, 26, 48, 51, 72. Third palpomere with 3 sensilla clavata subapically, longest 12 m long.

Thorax ( Fig. 20 View FIGURE 20 B). Antepronotum with 2 setae . Dorsocentrals 8; acrostichals 7, all scalpellate in the middle of scutum; prealars 2; supraalar 1. Scutellum with 2 setae .

Wing ( Fig. 20 View FIGURE 20 C). VR 1.45. Costal extension 105 m long. Brachiolum with 1 seta, M1+2 with 14 setae , R with 3 setae , R4+5 with 1 seta apically, other veins bare. Wing membrane with 21 setae in cell r4+5, 6 setae in m1+2. Squama with 5 setae .

Legs. Front legs lost. Spurs of middle tibia 25 m and 21 m long, of hind tibia 34 m and 21 m long. Width at apex of middle tibia 18 m, of hind tibia 28 m. Hind tibial comb with 7 setae , shortest seta 17 m long, longest seta 23 m long. Lengths (in m) and proportions of legs as in Table 16 View TABLE 16 .

Hypopygium ( Fig. 20 View FIGURE 20 D–F). Anal point 29 m long, 34 m wide at base, with 7 strong lateral setae , void of microtrichia except at base. Laterosternite IX with 7 setae . Phallapodeme 41 m long. Transverse sternapodeme nearly straight with rounded oral projections, 61 m long. Virga absent. Gonocoxite 131 m long, with long, low inferior volsella, with rounded projection orally. Gonostylus 65 m long, megaseta 4 m long. HR 2.02, HV 2.51.
