Bull. Soc. Bot. France 80: 201 (1933). — Lectotype (here designated): Perrier de la Bâthie 16742, Madagascar, Prov. Antananarivo, Tampoketsa entre l’Ikopa et la Betsiboka, vers 1600 m, Dec. 1924, bud, y.fr. (P!; iso-, MO!).
Brexia montana is a shrub to slender treelet in subhumid forest between 1100 and 1600 m ele- vation, from north of Moramanga to Zahamena PN/RNI and west to the Tampoketsa d’Ankazobe (Fig. 4). It can be recognized by its pseudoumbellate inflorescences borne on slender peduncles to at most 1.5 mm broad, and small flowers and fruits.
Of the three syntypes ( Humbert 4481, Perrier de la Bâthie 6002, 16742) originally designated by PERRIER DE LA BÂTHIE (1933), the latter with both flower and mature fruit is here chosen as the lectotype.
