8. Rhynchortalia riedeli sp. n.

Diagnosis: This species resembles R. insueta and is only slightly larger than the latter and can be reliably differentiated only by the male genitalia ( Figs. 57-60 ).

Description: Length: 3.0–3.5 mm; width: 2.0 mm. Male: Body ( Fig. 10 ) elongate oval, moderately convex, dorsum with silvery white pubescence. Head and pronotum bright luteous yellow to yellowish brown; elytra brilliant iridescent violet with yellowish apices. Antenna, mouthparts, prosternum, legs, and abdominal ventrites yellowish to yellowish brown, meso– and metaventrites dark brown to black, metacoxae brown, epipleural apices testaceous, abdominal ventrite 1 medially infuscate or brown.

Head with large compound eyes, inner margin of eye emarginate or lenticular below antennal insertion, frons somewhat depressed; punctures dense, separated by ≤1 diameter, interspaces reticulate. Pronotum with shallowly impressed punctures separated by 1–3 diameters on disc, slightly coarser on sides, interspaces reticulate; anterior edge of pronotal hypomeral shelf projecting beyond anterior angles. Elytra with distinct dual punctures on disc, large punctures widely separated on disc, with smaller ones separated by 2–4 diameters in interstices, large punctures more closely spaced on lateral sides, not much coarser than those on disc, interspaces smooth, shiny. Pronotal hypomeral shelf somewhat triangular, distinctly at a higher plane than rest of hypomera, shallowly foveate medially or depressed; in dorsal view clearly visible with its anterior corner projecting beyond anterior corner of pronotum. Anterior margin of mesoventrite shallowly emarginated medially. Abdominal postcoxal lines apparent, shallow, semicircular. Ventrite 5 and 6 posteriorly arcuate and conical, respectively, in female. Posterior margin of ventrite 5 ( Fig. 26 ) shallowly, evenly emarginate, ventrite 6 more deeply but narrowly emarginate medially and heavily fringed with long setae. Male genitalia ( Figs. 57–60 ) with an elongate penis guide, subequal or only slightly shorter than parameres, slightly narrowed medially, apical 1/3 conical, narrowed to a small, rounded apex; penis ( Figs. 59, 60 ) as illustrated.

Specimens Examined: Holotype, male: Papua New Guinea: West Sepki , Vanimo –Denake Range km 12, 28– 29.10.1992 / leg. A. Riedel ( SMNS) ; Paratypes: Wareo, Finsch Haven, Rev. L. Wagner, 1 male ( SAM); Wau, 1200 m, 2.II.1966 / J. Sedlacek, 1 male ( BPBM) .

Etymology: The specific epithet, a genitive case (singular) noun, honours Dr. Alex Riedel, collector of this and many other Papuan Coccinellidae .

Distribution: Papua New Guinea.
