The sigmodontines are the most diverse subfamily of cricetids, with a distribution spanning southern North America to Cape Horn. They occupy a great variety of habitats across an elevational range from sea level to 5000 m ( D’Elía and Pardiñas, 2015; Maestri and Patterson, 2016; Pardiñas et al., 2017).
