Neolitsea marginata (Kolakovsky & Schakryl) Doweld , comb. nov.

≡ Cinnamomophyllum marginatum Kolakovsky & Schakryl (in Kolakovsky 1959: 340, pl. 6, fig. 6, pl. 9, figs. 11–14) ≡ Cinnamomum marginatum (Kolakovsky & Schakryl) Usnadze (1965: 162) ≡ Daphnogene marginata (Kolakovsky & Schakryl) Schakryl (1977: 100) .

Holotype:— ABKHAZIA. Duab, Kolakovsky V-659 ( SUCH, n.v., probably lost in fire in Georgian-Abkhazian War 1992–1993); Pliocene.

Note:— Sveshnikova & Imchanitzkaja (1975) noticed that the fossil-species Cinnamomophyllum marginatum Kolakovsky & Schakryl was doubtfully allied to Cinnamomum , viz. Cinnamomum litseifolium Thwaites (1861: 253) in particular. The leaves of extant C. litseifolium have a different venation, epidermal cells and guard cells of stomata. In contrast, the fossil-species revealed a resemblance with some extant Neolitsea species in presence of a marginal thickened veinlet, tertiary venation and microstructure of epidermal cells. Therefore, the proposed placement of Cinnamomophyllum marginatum Kolakovsky & Schakryl in Cinnamomum as Cinnamomum marginatum (Kolakovsky & Schakryl) Usnadze was not supported by leaf venation and microstructure; hence, the fossil-species is transferred to Neolitsea here.
