Diagnosis. Female ( Fig. 52 View FIGURES 52 – 60 ). Frons mainly yellowish brown, only darker brown around orbital setae ( Fig. 53 View FIGURES 52 – 60 ). Parafacial spots and orbital spots absent ( Fig. 54 View FIGURES 52 – 60 ); frons with pair of posterior orbital setae. Antennal scape yellowish brown, distinctly lighter than pedicel ( Fig. 54 View FIGURES 52 – 60 ). Fore tibia and basitarsus normal in both sexes. Thorax mainly black except yellow upper margin of pleuron. Scutellum with pair of apical scutellar setae. Wing infumated, usually with darker anterior portion and apex ( Fig. 52 View FIGURES 52 – 60 ). Male similar to female in external characters except terminalia.

Male terminalia: Sternum 5 divided into two subtriangular sclerites ( Fig. 55 View FIGURES 52 – 60 ). Cercus elongated, rod-like ( Fig. 56 View FIGURES 52 – 60 ). Surstylus similar to that of S. plumbella , sickle-like in caudal view ( Fig. 56–57 View FIGURES 52 – 60 ). Hypandrium with a deep cleft at outer edge ( Fig. 58 View FIGURES 52 – 60 ). Cochleate vesicle present ( Fig. 56–57 View FIGURES 52 – 60 ). Aedeagus and apodemes as shown in Figs. 59–60 View FIGURES 52 – 60 .

Distribution. China (Yunnan, Hainan, Taiwan, Hong Kong); Thailand, Burma, Sumatra, Malaya, India, Philippines, Java. Oriental Region ( Yano, 1968; Steyskal, 1980).

Remarks. This species is similar to S. plumbella in external characters, especially in females. In S. senex the fore basitarsus of both sexes are normal in appearance, so it is not easy to distinguish between females of S. plumbella and S. senex at first glance. Characters for separating the two species are as shown in couplet 4 of the key.
