(not Arrhipis Agassiz, 1846 )
Bouchard and Bousquet (2020) showed that Arrhipis Bonvouloir, 1871 is a junior homonYm of Arrhipis Agassiz, 1846 and thus both this name and Arrhipidini [Arhipini Cobos, 1964] were unavailable. Furthermore, Bouchard et al. (2024) noted that Gemminger in Gemminger and Harold (1869) was actuallY the first to make Arrhipis available to a eucnemid group instead of Bonvouloir (1871) when he assigned two species to that group in their publication.
Comment: The junior homonYm Arrhipis Gemminger, 1869 , not Agassiz, 1846, has been substituted with its junior subjective sYnonYm Nematodinus Lea, 1919 recentlY bY Bouchard et al. (2024). No action is needed to replace the unavailable name Arrhipidini as it is an unnecessarY name given current understanding of Eucnemidae classification. Both morphological ( Alaruikka 2005) and total evidence (J. Muona, in preparation) analYses indicate the group would be paraphYletic.
Epiphanini MUona 1993: 45 [stem: Epiphan-] TYpe genus: Epiphanis Eschscholtz, 1829 View in CoL
Bouchard and Bousquet (2020) showed that the senior homonYm Epiphanidae Harring, 1913 View in CoL (tYpe genus: Epiphanes Ehrenberg, 1832 View in CoL ) in Rotifera is currentlY used as valid (e.g., Wilts et al. 2012: 180); this case is to be referred to the Commission to remove the homonYmY ( ICZN 1999: Article 55.3.1).
Comment: This problem cannot be resolved without a separate application to the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature. An application for a replacement name will be submitted shortlY.
