This species was described based on female samples from quills of the Lesser Flamingo, Phoeniconaias minor (Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire) ( Phoenicopteriformes : Phoenicopteridae ) from Botswana ( Skoracki & OConnor, 2010). Below we describe a male of this species for the first time.
Description. MALE (two specimens). Total body length 550–580. Gnathosoma . Infracapitulum apunctate. Each transverse branch of peritremes with 5–7 chambers, each longitudinal branch with 13–16 chambers ( Fig.12 View FIGURES 11 – 15 ). Stylophore apodeme apunctate, 195–200 long. Movable cheliceral digit 155 long. Idiosoma . Propodonotal shield well sclerotized and punctate, slightly concave on anterior and posterior margins. Setae se situated distinctly anterior to level of setae c1. Hysteronotal shield punctate, bearing bases of setae d1. Pseudanal setae about twice longer than genital setae ( Fig.13 View FIGURES 11 – 15 ). Coxal fields I–IV punctate. Setae 3c slightly (1.1 times) longer than 3b. Legs. Fan–like setae p’ and p” of legs III and IV with 6–8 tines. Setae tc” III–IV 1.7 longer than tc’ III–IV. Lengths of setae: vi 170, ve 185, si 205, c2 170, se 205, c1 190, d2 170, d 1 25–30, e 2 25 –35, f2 60, h2 55, ag1 145, ag2 95–110, ag3 145, g1 and g2 5, ps1 and ps2 10, tc’III– IV 45, tc” III–IV 75, sc3 70–80, sc4 60–80, 3b 95, 3c 110.
Material examined. Three females and 2 males from wings coverts of Phoenicopterus ruber Linnaeus ( Phoenicopteriformes : Phoenicopteridae ), died in the C. Hagenbeck Zoological Garden in Hamburg, Coll. E. Glowska, Nov. 2010.
