Celleporaria inaudita Tilbrook, Hayward & Gordon, 1991

( Figs 2D View FIGURE 2 , 5 View FIGURE 5 A–C; Table 4)

Celleporaria inaudita Tilbrook, Hayward & Gordon, 1991: p. 72 , fig. 13d–f.

Material examined. PPB 02, PPB 03, Stn JP 01-1; TAB 01, TAB 04, TAB 07, TAB 08, TAB 09, Stn JP 01-2.

Description. Colony encrusting, multilaminar ( Fig. 5A View FIGURE 5 ). Autozooids more or less oval, convex, with unclear boundaries. Frontal shield slightly nodular, with 10–12 marginal pores. Primary orifice rather wider than long, Dshaped, proximal margin with somewhat median shallow U-shaped sinus with two short-pointed cusps with variable development. Oral spines absent. Secondary calcification around the primary orifice is low, not obscuring it. Avicularium small, suboral, rostrum elliptical with distal rim weakly denticulate, orientated perpendicular to the orifice ( Fig. 5C View FIGURE 5 ). Vicarious avicularia ( Fig. 5B View FIGURE 5 ) scarce, narrowly spatulate, rostral tip rounded with denticulate distal rim, pivot bar complete. Ovicell a cap-like structure occupying the distal and lateral borders of the orifice; frontal surface flat and membranous, distal portion calcified, nodular.

Remarks. Celleporaria inaudita was common in the studied samples, with 2–5 colonies encountered at different sampling sites, constituting the first record of the species in the Java Sea. It differs from Celleporaria aperta ( Hincks, 1882) in the characters of the primary orifice, with different-sized small cusps, not defining the somewhat regular sinus seen in C. aperta ( Tilbrook et al. 2001) .

Distribution. Celleporaria inaudita was previously found at different localities around Efate Island, Vanuatu ( Tilbrook et al. 2001).
