DISTRIBUTION. — Known only from New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji and Tonga (Fig. 25), in 489-500 m.

DESCRIPTION. — Shell morphology. Length 7 mm, width 4 mm (largest specimen examined). Shell thin, short, with convex sides (Fig. 24F). Body whorl very large, about 4/5 of the shell length. Spire short, conical, with 3-4 short whorls. Suture slightly channeled. Umbilicus very narrow, partially covered by an extension of the columellar margin. Aperture narrow, wider anteriorly, and long, about 3/4 of the body whorl length. Columellar margin thickened, slightly oblique, with a small, simple fold. Sculpture of a number of punctuated spiral grooves. The punctuations are conspicuous, oval, and partially fused to the next one within each groove. The grooves are separated by gaps that are wider than the grooves themselves. Colour uniformly cream to pinkish.

Anatomy. Unknown. All shells collected lacked soft parts.

REMARKS. — The specimens assigned to “ Acteon ” sp. 14 could be juveniles of Maxacteon fabreanus (Crosse, 1874) , Acteon herosae n. sp., or another species of Indo-Pacific Acteonidae . They differ from M. fabreanus by having a lower spire and a proportionately wider shell. Differences from A. herosae include the more fragile shell and absence of a fold in the columella in “ Acteon ” sp. 14. Even though “ Acteon ” sp. 14 can be differentiated from other species here described, there is not enough material to confirm whether these differences represent intraspecific variability within another species. For now, “ Acteon ” sp. 14 is regarded as a different, unnamed species.

A definitive generic placement for this species is not possible until complete specimens become available for study.
