TYPE SPECIES: Arvicola melanogaster Milne-Edwards, 1871 .
SYNONYMS: Anteliomys , Aschizomys , Caryomys .
COMMENTS: Revised by Corbet (1978c), who also included Phaulomys (a genus we separate from Eothenomys ) and Aschizomys (which we include in Alticola ). Eothenomys is closely related to Hyperacrius , Alticola , and Clethrionomys , all of which are usually placed in the Clethrionomyini ( Gromov and Polyakov, 1977; Hooper and Hart, 1962; Koenigswald, 1980).
